AH 192 - Workshop in Art History: Museums in New YorkSemester Hours: 3 This course draws on the great art resources accumulated by New York City. The course is designed as an art historical survey, but more than two thirds of its class sessions meet in 11 different museums rather than in the classroom, and instead of usual slides, students deal with original objects of art. Starting with Egyptian and classical art in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the class proceeds to the medieval art collections of the Cloisters, explores the old masters in The Frick Collection, and visits the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim Museum. Other less known, but nonetheless great institutions, such as the American Numismatic Society, Hispanic Society and Neue Gallery, will provide the actual materials for some special topics.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: May be repeated for credit when topics vary.
