NSC 5 - Introductory Methods in Forensic ScienceSemester Hours: 3 Summer
This introductory course in forensic science is intended for
science-oriented high school students interested in investigative
techniques. It is an integrated laboratory-lecture course that will
introduce students to select topics in forensic science as well as some
of the physical, chemical and instrumental methods used by detectives
and forensic scientists to investigate evidence at the crime scene or
in the laboratory. Topics will include crime scene investigation, drug
analysis, toxicology, serology and DNA analysis. Hands-on activities
involving microscopic and spectroscopic methods of analysis will
acquaint the students with some of the state-of-the-art instrumentation
used in this field.
