PHI 168 - Philosophy of MathematicsSemester Hours: 3 Periodically
An investigation into the epistemological foundations and metaphysical
commitments of mathematics. Particular attention is paid to the debate
between rationalists and empiricists regarding the nature of
mathematical knowledge, and to that between realists and anti-realists
regarding the existence of mathematical objects. Readings are drawn
from both historical and contemporary sources.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: PHI 10 or permission of instructor.
