The Independent Study would revolve around these works by authors from Mediterranean countries who are also deeply reflective about the Mediterranean as a cultural entity that cuts across borders. The student will use the same approach that my students use on the Greece Abroad program: He will write five brief reports on each individual work and its philosophical and literary approach to the Mediterranean (10 pages) and he will write a single paper comparing the approaches of the works to Mediterranean landscape and culture (7-10 pages), as well as a series ofletters from the front, so to speak, sent by email comparing his travel experiences and cultural background to the pieces he has read (7 letters)
