LAW 2907 - Licensing and Copyright Law


This course will focus on licensing and copyright law.  Topics will include a discussion of standard license elements; an examination of types of licenses, including but not limited to compulsory, implied, exclusive, non-exclusive, and shrinkwrap/clickon; the study of existing and proposed/pending U.S. legislative and judicial documents and their effect on licensing intellectual property; antitrust and misuse issues; ethical considerations in licensing; and international licensing.

The course will be graded on a combination of drafting assignments and a final paper.  The class will contain a skills component in the form of one or more drafting assignments, each of which will require students to mark-up and edit draft licenses.  It may also meet the law school’s Writing Requirement I or II in that the total number of  pages contained in the drafting assignment(s) and the final paper will exceed the 25 page mark.
