ITLT 041 - (LT) Dante and Medieval Culture: The “Divine Comedy”Semester Hours: 3 An examination of Dante’s masterpiece as a summa of medieval learning. Close readings with emphasis on the intellectual, religious, political and scientific background of the medieval world. Dante’s vision of the supernatural will be compared to and contrasted with its representations in contemporary literature and iconography. Particular attention will be given to the inferno and to a discussion of the concept of “love” in the Middle Ages. All works are read and discussed in English.
