LAW 5100 - Using Technology to Deliver Legal Services

In this capstone course, students will learn how to use new technologies to improve the delivery of legal services and promote greater access to our justice system. Students will be trained to use new software for document assembly and app development, including A2J Author and HotDocs. In addition, students will work collaboratively on one or more projects on behalf of a client, which may include local legal services providers, government entities, non-profit organizations, or law school clinics. The students will perform a field study with the client to determine how technology can be used to improve the delivery of legal services by the organization and/or on behalf of the client community it serves. Students will then collaborate to use software to build a product for their client that responds to the needs of the organization and/or its clients. The course will culminate with the students’ presentation of the product to the client. No prior technical training is required to participate in this course.
