LYST 217A - Reading and Writing With Adolescents Semester Hours: 3 Fall, Spring, Summer
Focuses on current theory about the nature of the reading and writing processes, and ways in which reading, writing, and literacy theory can be developed into effective reading, writing, and/or English education instruction for adolescents and children in middle childhood. Includes critical perspectives on canonical and academic literacies, language variation, standardized testing, censorship, assessment and “remediation,” student reading/writing choice, avid reading/writing, disenfranchised readers/writers, and personal literacies. A 10-hour field experience is required.
