NUR 272 - Principles of Electrocardiograph (ECG) Interpretation Semester Hours: 2 This course is designed to prepare the advanced practice nurse with a well-grounded understanding of the principles required for interpreting electrocardiograms (ECGs). Particular focus will be paid to the indications, contraindications, precautions, adverse effects, risks, benefits, sensitivities, specificities, limitations, and evidence-basis guiding the use of the ECG for commonly encountered acute and chronic conditions. How the ECG is influenced by a variety of diseases and conditions, not only those of the heart but also of the lungs and other body systems, will be explored. Upon completion of this elective, the advanced practice nursing student will have a richer understanding of how to use the ECG (including rhythm strips and 12-lead ECGs) to support the clinical decision making and the diagnostic and therapeutic management of patients in both the inpatient and ambulatory care environments.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: For Graduate Nursing Majors only.
