LAW 2508 - The Criminal Law of Intellectual Property and Information

This course will examine how the criminal law treats intellectual property infringement and related offenses. We will trace how the criminal law has evolved from applying to property offenses only to covering those against intangible property. Our study will include policy discussions about the use of criminal versus civil measures to protect intellectual property owners and analysis of how this question differs by IP regime and particular offense. We will carefully consider these matters under U.S. law as well as draw on comparisons to foreign systems.
