BIO 014 - (NS) Evolution, Ecology and BehaviorSemester Hours: 4
Fall
This course will introduce students to the evolutionary and ecological processes that affect individual organisms, populations and communities. Topics of study include the unity and diversity of life, the complex web of ecological interactions between organisms and their environment, and the evolutionary mechanisms that shape life’s diversity. In addition, related topics of current interest, such as biodiversity, conservation, and behavioral ecology will be considered. This class is required for biology majors, and relies on students having a foundation in cell biology and genetics, as provided through the prerequisite course, BIO 011 . The laboratory component of this class emphasizes hands-on learning through a combination of field work, interactive computer simulations, and classroom laboratories that stress student participation and critical thought. (3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory, 1 hour recitation.)
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
BIO 011 , 012 , and 015 or permission of instructor. Lab fee additional.
