PSY 431 - Clinical Seminar in Sports Psychology


Semester Hours: 3
Fall, Spring
Sports psychology is a rapidly growing specialization in which the skills of clinical psychology and applied behavior analysis are applied to the adjustment and performance of athletes. Students will learn how to use cognitive/behavioral techniques and hypnosis to help athletes deal with emotional problems that interfere with performance and reduce their stress responses. They will also learn to apply psychological assessment techniques in sports situations.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Open only to students matriculated in the doctoral program in clinical psychology , or permission of instructor. May be repeated up to a maximum of 6 semester hours. Credit given for this course or PSY 451, Clinical Seminar in Special Topics: Sports Psychology, not both. May not be taken on a Pass/Fail basis.
