PSY 410 - Seminar in Suicide Research and Intervention Semester Hours: 3 s.h.

This course introduces students to a variety of issues and topics related to suicide and suicidal behavior. The course will involve weekly class periods where material will be presented in lecture, discussion, and role-play formats. Topics will include the prevalence and risk/protective factors for suicidal behaviors, evidence-based strategies for assessing suicidal behavior and risk of suicide, evidence-based prevention and intervention for suicidal individuals, ethical issues pertaining to suicide and to surviving family following a death by suicide, and the ways in which suicide is represented in popular media.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Open only to matriculated students in a graduate psychology program. Credit given to this course or PSY 451A - Suicide Intervention & Research, not both. Course may be repeated two times. (Formerly PSY 451A, Suicide Intervention & Research)
