SPAN 240 - Poetry Writing in Spanish


Semester Hours: 3 s.h.
Reading and writing are two key elements for the development of a new poetics. This course is designed primarily for the development of writing poetry through reading. Thus, students will read poets of the Hispanic tradition and from different linguistic traditions.  In addition, students will make presentations of selected poems of the authors read, and, periodically, they will bring their own poems to be constructively criticized in a workshop. While readings might be in other languages, submission of work will be in Spanish.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Open only to majors in the MFA program in Creative Writing with a concentration in Spanish or permission of the program coordinator for the MFA in Creative Writing, concentration in Spanish.  May not be taken on a Pass/Fail basis. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.  The maximum credits counted towards the MFA in Creative Writing with concentration in Spanish is 6 semester hours.
