ACCT 245 - Applied Accounting Analytics

Data analytics applied in financial accounting, managerial accounting, and auditing are covered. Emphasis is placed on exposure to data sets, software tools, and hands-on practice in order to develop enhanced analytical skills necessary to critically assess data for decision-making in the accounting profession. Software tools used in the course include spreadsheet tools, database management tools, data visualization tools, data analysis tools, and data mining tools. Focus is placed on the identification of appropriate questions to ask in the accounting fields examined (i.e., problem assessment), which tools are best suited to answer identified questions, and how to use selected tools to answer identified questions. Additionally, data preparation, analysis, and visualization of accounting data are covered.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Prerequisites: ACCT 208, ACCT 224, ACCT 231, and ACCT 233 [or approved equivalent(s)] or permission of the department chairperson. This course is open only to matriculated graduate students in the MS Accounting Analytics program.
