Semester Hours: 3

Once a year

Data is everywhere in our society, and is being used by a broader range of entities for a broader range of purposes every day. This course aims to provide technical depth while integrating perspectives from economics, law, policy and other schools of thought on privacy. It will emphasize privacy protection technologies and security technologies. It will use the primary privacy and information security principles set out both in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”) and in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act as a baseline framework, and will explain how these rules apply in theory and in practice.
