Gerontology: Healthy Aging, Adv. Cert.

This 18-credit advanced certificate program provides students with a basic interdisciplinary background in gerontology coupled with a related field placement or capstone research experience.** The certificate is tailored to individual students’ needs, interests, and experience*. 

On average, students complete this program in one and one-half academic years.

*Note: While this advanced certificate provides the foundation needed for many different career pathways, it should be noted that completion of the certificate can help interested students fulfill the education eligibility requirements for Geriatric Care Management certification.  For more information about this particular career pathway, please visit http://www.naccm.net.

**This program does not prepare students for the practice of any licensed profession.

Admission Requirements


  1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  2. Two letters of recommendation.
  3. Personal essay describing professional intent and pertinent background.
  4. An interview with the program director. 

The department understands that any single criterion may not reliably predict a candidate’s potential for success in a graduate program.  Consequently, candidates are welcome to apply if they do not meet one of the criteria but feel that other aspects of their experience may compensate.
