This program qualifies students for general and public accounting careers in business. It fully satisfies the educational requirements for licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York State. New York and most other states require 150 semester hours of coursework for licensure as a CPA. Students planning to obtain CPA licenses in states other than New York should review individual state requirements.
Majors in accounting must have an overall grade point average of 2.0 in accounting coursework at Hofstra. In addition, they must have a C- or better in ACCT 101 , 102 , 123 , and 124 , whether taken at Hofstra or transferred in from another institution. Otherwise, these accounting courses must be retaken at Hofstra since no waivers will be granted.
The major requirements are ACCT 123 , 124 , 125 , 131 , 133 , 139 , 140 , 143 , 144 ; LEGL 024 , IT 131 , and electives are chosen under advisement. Students enrolled in this program will automatically earn a concentration in Digital Accounting Technology upon completing the following five courses: IT 001 and IT 015 (business core), ACCT 139 , ACCT 140 , and IT 131 (major courses).
