Italian Studies and Italian American Studies, Minor in

The Italian and Italian American Studies minor offers an extensive, ever-expanding array of exciting courses covering essential and unexpected aspects of Italian culture and history—from modern politics, culinary traditions, and cinematic masterpieces to regional folklore, iconic mafiosi, contemporary literature, and graphic novels.

Minoring in Italian Studies is a great way to enhance your intercultural competence. In doing so, you may use this minor to support your major in related fields such as Business, Economics, Communication, Journalism & Public Relations, Linguistics, Marketing, Arts and Media, as well as Global Studies, History and Anthropology. Finally, even majors in STEM fields will find that a minor in Italian Studies provides the humanistic background to make them more rounded.

All coursework in this interdisciplinary and highly customizable program is in English. No Italian language proficiency is required.

Minor Requirements - Total Semester Hours: 18


The program consists of the successful completion of 18 semester hours of required and elective courses listed below and 9 semester hours in-residence.

  • Substitutions for, and additions to, the list of courses in category B may be made with the approval of the Italian Studies faculty advisor. 
  • No more than 6 s.h. of course work taken as part of the student’s major may be applied toward the Italian Studies and Italian American Studies Minor.
