Mathematical Economics, BA Major in

The BA major in mathematical economics offers a substantially more rigorous training in mathematics and quantitative methods than the corresponding BA major in economics and BS major in business economics. This program aims to address the needs of mathematically oriented students who intend to pursue graduate studies in economics or work for businesses and other organizations seeking to employ young economists with a solid foundation in quantitative analysis.

Program Requirements


In addition to the complete BA requirements described in the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences section of this Bulletin , students must fulfill the following requirements:

Economics - Semester Hours: 33


33 semester hours in economics.  Required courses are ECO 001 (or 007), 002, 132, 184, and one microeconomic theory course from the following: ECO 130 ECO 169, ECO 172, ECO 173. Students select additional electives from among the 100-level courses in economics for a total of 18 semester hours.  GEOG 135 and 193 may be offered as economics electives.

Mathematics - Semester Hours: 17


 

Information Technology - Semester Hours: 4


Students need to take IT 001 and IT 015 for a total of 4 s.h.
