Broadcast and Streaming Journalism, BS Major in

Broadcast Journalism encompasses reporting created for television, radio, podcasting and streaming.  The Bachelor of Science in Broadcast and Streaming Journalism is a 55-credit major combining theory and practice across journalism coursework, with a concentrated focus on broadcast journalism as the industry expands into new platforms and formats. Students must complete required core coursework in studies, writing, and reporting before choosing electives in their field of study. Students must also take at least one internship to complete their program requirements.

A grade of C- or better is required for all courses in the major; students may not take a course for which they receive less than a C- in a pre-requisite; any given course can only satisfy a single category; no more than six s.h. of internship credits, overall, can count for the major.

BS Broadcast and Streaming Journalism students must take 72 Liberal Arts credits. Completing required Liberal Arts classes outside and inside the major will not be sufficient to reach that minimum amount. Additional Liberal Arts classes will need to be taken. Close monitoring is required to ensure this graduation requirement is met.

Based on 30 credits of general requirements and 55 credits in the major, 39 credits are available as free electives. This allows for taking an optional non-LHSC minor.  Completing a minor is strongly recommended. A minor can be Liberal Arts-based or not. Minors in LHSC are not allowed.
