Both major and minor programs are supervised by a full-time faculty member of French, selected by the student.

Program Requirements - Total Semester Hours: 36

36 semester hours (33 s.h. for students placing above level 4 in French) distributed evenly in language, culture, and literature, as specified below.

FREN 199

FREN 199  (honor’s thesis) can be taken with the consent of the department in accordance with requirements; this would bring the total number of FREN credits to 39.

Notes:

Credit in a language course cannot be given to a student who has already earned credit for a higher-numbered course in the same language when the course numbers in question indicate level of comprehension and ability in the introductory and intermediate study of that language.

NOTES: Language laboratory work is required in all modern foreign language courses on the 1, 2, 2R, 3, 4 level. The University general education goals and objectives relative to the composition and delivery of audience-appropriate oral presentations that develop and support a point and the demonstration of skill in oral communication for purposes such as informing, persuading, and defending are fulfilled by taking FREN 113  and FREN 114 , which are required for the major, and either FREN 109  or FREN 110 , one of which is required for the major.
