Sociology (Bachelor of Arts) and Applied Social Research and Public Policy (Master of Arts), Dual-degree Program

Qualified undergraduate sociology majors and minors may choose to take a dual-degree B.A. in sociology/M.A. in applied social research and public policy. They must be conditionally accepted into the graduate program before being eligible to take up to four graduate-level courses (12 s.h.) from among ASR 201, 202, 203, 204 as part of the undergraduate program. These courses are credited to both the B.A. and the M.A.

Thus, students need to complete a total of 154 s.h.: 112 s.h. of undergraduate course work and 42 s.h. of graduate work. All other undergraduate requirements (distribution, composition, languages) remain the same as those for a B.A. with a major or a minor in sociology.

Application

Students should apply to the program through the Graduate Admissions Office during the spring semester of their sophomore or junior year and should have an overall GPA of at least 3.2 and a sociology GPA of at least 3.2 by the end of semester in which they apply in order to be considered for acceptance into the program. Students accepted into the program may begin taking graduate-level courses under advisement in the fall semester of either their junior or senior year.
