The Master of Science meets the needs of students seeking to initiate or enhance a career in applied mathematics in industry. This program also prepares students for Ph.D. study. Students may attend part-time or full-time.

Admission Requirements
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a strong background in mathematics, including Linear Algebra (MATH 135A), Advanced Calculus (MATH 171), and Elementary Differential Equations (MATH 131). Motivated students who have taken fewer mathematics courses will be considered for provisional admission. Program Requirements - Semester Hours: 33
The Master of Science in Applied Mathematics requires 33 semester hours of graduate courses, of which at least 24 hours must be in mathematics. The remaining 9 semester hours may be taken in mathematics or, with the Graduate Program Director’s permission, in biology, computer science, economics, finance, or other appropriate disciplines.
Students must complete a master’s thesis, which requires approval of two departmental readers and an oral defense. In addition, students must take a course in computer programming or demonstrate equivalent proficiency.

- Completion of all program requirements.
- A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in overall graduate course work.
