B.S. Specialization in Economics (Business)

Program Requirements - Total Semester Hours: 124
Candidates for graduation must fulfill the following requirements: 1. The Successful Completion of at Least 124 Semester Hours
The successful completion of at least 124 semester hours and a cumulative grade
point average of 2.0 in work completed at Hofstra. 2. Liberal Arts
Of the 93 required liberal arts credits, at least 57 credits must be completed
in courses other than economics. 3. Residence Requirements
There are three requirements that must ordinarily be completed in residence at
Hofstra: 15 semester hours in the major field of specialization, at least three
semester hours in distribution course work toward each divisional distribution
course requirement, and the last 30 semester hours. The 15 semester hours in the
major and the resident distribution course requirement need not be included within
the last 30 hours. 4. General Requirements
The same distribution requirements as for the B.A. Humanities - Semester Hours: 9
Natural Sciences - Semester Hours: 3
Mathematics - Semester Hours: 6
Social Sciences - Semester Hours: 9
(other than economics) Foreign Languages
LING 101 or proficiency at least level 2 in one foreign language. This proficiency
can be demonstrated by satisfactory completion of a level 2 foreign language course
in college or by passing the foreign language level 2 proficiency examination
administered by the language departments. Economics: 33 s.h.
Students are required to take 33 s.h. in economics courses including
those listed below. Students planning to ppursue graduate work in
economics are strongly advised to take ECO 182 (Introduction to
Econometrics).
Electives:
Economics electives must be at the 100-level. Of the geography courses,
only GEOG 135 and GEOG 193 may be offered as economics electives.

Statistics and Computer Science: 3 s.h.
In addition, 3 semester hours in statistics (MATH 8 or QM 1) and 4 semester hours
in computer science (BCIS 14) are required. Business: 25 s.h.
Students are required to take a total of 25 semester hours in business.
Business credits in excess of 25 will not be counted toward a degree in
business economics. All business courses must be chosen under
advisement. 6. Recommended
Students who wish to specialize in a specific area of business are recommended
to plan early, and under faculty advisement take one of the following six combinations
of courses in business, elective economics, and general requirements. International Business
Choose 12 credits from the Economics courses listed below. Also required is
6 semester hours in Geography including 3 semester hours in GEOG 1 or 135. Management
Any five, three credit undergraduate elective courses in management and/or general
business (except GBUS 1 and 180); and a choice of twelve credits from the following
economics courses: |
