This program is offered jointly by the departments of Computer Science and Mathematics.

Program Requirements
Candidates for graduation with this dual major must fulfill the following requirements: 1. Total Semester Hours: 134
The successful completion of at least 134 semester hours and a cumulative grade
point average of at least 2.0 in work completed at Hofstra. 2. Liberal Arts
At least 40 semester hours must be completed in the liberal arts excluding courses
in computer science or mathematics. 3. Residence Requirements
There are three requirements that must ordinarily be completed in residence at
Hofstra: 15 semester hours in computer science, 15 semester hours in mathematics,
and the last 30 hours. The computer science and mathematics hours need not be
included within the last 30 hours. 4. The following general requirements: 6 s.h.
If the ENGL 1 and 2 requirements listed below are fullfilled by passing
the placement exam, 3 semester hours in literature or literature in
translation must be taken with adviser’s approval. (See University
Degree Requirements.) 5. Humanities distribution: 6 s.h.
- 3 s.h. in appreciation and analysis (literature)
- 3 s.h. in creative participation
6. Social science distribution: 6 s.h.
- 3 s.h. in history and philosophy
- 3 s.h. in behavioral social sciences
7. Cross cultural distribution: 3 s.h.
8. Humanities and/or Social Science: 3 s.h.
Not limited to distribution. 9. Foreign language
Completion of level 2, or placement beyond level 2. 10. Computer science: 44 s.h.
- 9 s.h. of computer science electives numbered higher than 100
11. Math courses: 37 s.h.
- In addition to the courses below, 3 semester hours in
intermediate or advanced mathematics numbered 100 or above, and 6
semester hours in advanced mathematics numbered 110 or above, chosen
under advisement of the department of mathematics.
14. Natural science requirements:
All natural science electives must be acceptable toward majors in their respective
departments. 15. Cumulative Average
A grade of C- or better in all courses required for the major. |
