New College-Creative Studies with a Dance Arts Focus

Program Reguirements
- 2 s.h. of Modern Dance.
- 2 s.h. of Ballet.
- 28 s.h. in additional courses in Modern Dance and Ballet.
- 3 s.h. in choreography – DNCE 121
- 6 s.h. in courses or projects in the history and appreciation of dance. DNCE
128 (Dance History) and DNCE 127 (Dance Appreciation).
- 4 s.h. in the study of the creative process selected from such courses as Creativity,
Psychology of Art, Philosophy of Art, or Aesthetics.
- 4 s.h. of Senior Project, scholarly or creative. (See general Creative Studies
Area Requirements above.) Senior Projects have two faculty assigned.
- 4 s.h. of Kineseology for the Dancer – PESP 107.
- 3 s.h. of DNCE 130 (Dance Styles) or DNCE 132 (Dance Styles).
- 2-3 s.h. from the following dance elective offerings:
DNCE 048 (Jazz Dance I), DNCE 049 (Jazz Dance II), DNCE 050 (Jazz Dance III),
DNCE 122 (Choreography II), DNCE 123 (Individual Study), DNCE 130 (Repertory),
DNCE 132 (Dance Styles), PESP 103 (Methods of Teaching Dance), and DRAM 157 (Choreography
for the Theater).
It is recommended that students enrolled in the Optional Dance Arts Focus within
Creative Studies take BIO 104 (Human Biology) and Physiology I, in partial fulfillment
of their Natural Science requirement at New College.
The dance program is in discussion with the Department of Music to add as a requirement
MUS 003 (Music Appreciation) to the dance major schedule. |
