This 30 s.h. program that leads to a Master of Science prepares health professionals to be clinical educators and to attain leadership positions in health professions education, as teachers and/or educational administrators. The curriculum will prepare students to manage change within their health care institutions, overcome organizational barriers, and effectively lead in line with futuristic trends in health professions education and practice. The program is designed to assure that those who lead and train health care professionals have the vision, knowledge and skills to plan, deliver and improve effective educational programs. This MS program will prepare students to develop and apply their skills that will support effective teaching and leading in a multitude of settings where clinical practice occurs. The curriculum includes advanced education in the areas of teaching and learning, assessment and program evaluation, leadership and administration, and educational research and scholarship. This program goes beyond the depth and breadth of traditional professional development efforts offered in a work environment.

Students will complete the 30-credit program through a combination of non-sequential core (required) courses, elective courses, and an independent study project that will culminate in a work of scholarship, all of which they can complete in a hybrid format consisting of a combination of intensive on-campus classes and online courses.

Admission Requirements


Admission into the Master of Science (MS) program is based on a comprehensive review of multiple criteria, including the following:

  1. A completed application to the program.
  2. Proof of licensure or certification as a health professional (e.g., physicians, physician assistants, nurses, therapists, nutritionists, clinical social workers, chaplains).
  3. An interview with the program director.
  4. A written personal statement of how this program can benefit the applicant’s career as a health professional.
  5. Official transcript of final degree earned.

The department understands that any single criterion may not reliably predict a candidate’s potential for success in a graduate program. Consequently, candidates are welcome to apply if they do not meet one of the criteria but feel that other aspects of their experience may compensate.

Graduation Requirements


  1. Completion of the 30 s.h. course requirements.
  2. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 in overall graduate course work and no grades below B.
  3. All course work taken in satisfaction of the program requirements must be completed within a five-year period.
