Associate Professor Mitus, Graduate Program Director, 516-463-7453

The Advanced Certificate in Rehabilitation Counseling is intended for rehabilitation practitioners or professionals in a related field (e.g., counseling, psychology, social work) who wish to take course and/or fieldwork to qualify for the national certification exam for Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC). To earn the advanced certificate, students will be required to complete a minimum of 21 semester hours with additional course work if needed upon advisement. Depending on the student’s goal, a program of study will be developed that positions him/her for eligibility to take the exam.

Hofstra University currently has registered master’s programs in Rehabilitation Counseling  and Rehabilitation Counseling in Mental Health . These programs, however, are intended for students who have either no or minimal academic training in the field. In contrast, the Advanced Certificate in Rehabilitation Counseling will serve a need for those who already hold a master’s degree in a related field and need a few courses to meet the requirements set forth by CRCC (Commission on Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling).

On average, students complete this program in one and one-half academic years.
