A performing arts program with emphasis on the study of technique, composition, performance and production. The course of study is designed to provide students with a concentrated experience in dance as an art form.
An audition and a personal interview with a member of the dance faculty is required prior to registration as a major.

Program Requirements
Candidates for graduation with the BFA degree in dance must fulfill the following requirements:
1. The Successful Completion of at Least 132 Semester Hours
The successful completion of at least 132 s.h. as listed below.
2. Liberal Arts Requirements - Semester Hours: 62
At least 62 semester hours of the total must be in liberal arts.
3. Residence Requirements
Candidates must spend the last four semesters of full-time study in-residence at Hofstra.
5. Demonstration Requirements
Demonstration of proficiency satisfactory to the dance faculty as determined by a fall and spring evaluation of majors and a senior project.
6. Major Requirements
- Students must participate in MOVOM (the Modern Dance Club) each semester.
- Assignment of students to the appropriate ballet and modern dance courses and labs will be based on prior experience, study and advancement.
- Courses chosen from the following:
A. Core Dance Requirements*(See Footnote) - Semester Hours: 76
B. Other Major Requirements - Semester Hours: 24
C. Dance Electives - Semester Hours: 2 to 3
Chosen from the following courses:
D. General Electives - Semester Hours: 6
