This program prepares students for careers in community/public health
settings with emphasis on content and skills for planning and
implementing health, wellness and disease prevention programs and
services in culturally diverse settings. Courses in program planning,
needs assessment, evaluation, information dissemination, health
education, are included. Specialized health courses may be taught by
adjunct faculty from the professional healthcare and health education
community.

Admission Requirements
- A completed application form.
- An interview with the program director.
- Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended with a minimum 2.75 GPA.
- A written personal statement describing the candidate’s goals in the teaching profession and in Community Health.
- Two letters of reference that address the candidate’s potential to succeed in the teaching profession and in graduate studies.
- Upon the recommendation of the program director, students with a GPA lower than 2.75 may be admitted by meeting one or more of the following criteria:
- Complete 12 probationary graduate credits maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Graduate Record Examination (GREs) will be required of those students with lower than 2.50 GPA.
Students may transfer up to 9 credits of equivalent graduate courses from an approved institution taken within the last five years and completed with a grade of B or better (with the approval of the student’s faculty adviser only). Competency Requirements
All students will be required to take one or more of this series of workshops during the first year of matriculation unless they meet the following criteria with the approval of the faculty adviser: A passing score on the proficiency exam as administered by the Computer Center. Previous related course work with a minimum grade of B. Note: There is a fee associated with each of the workshops. Contact your program adviser. Program Requirements- Semester Hours 39
General Core Requirements: 12.5 s.h.
Major Core Requirements: 10.5 s.h.
Core Electives: 12 s.h.
Selected from the following under advisement only. Required Field Experience: 3 s.h.
Note: three s.h. of electives may be substituted for field experience if the student can document equivalent related employment or prior courses(with written permission from department adviser only). Final Requirement: 1 s.h.
Must be taken during the final semester of study with approval from the program adviser only. Graduation Requirements
Successful completion of all course requirements for the degree including the capstone experience, with an overall GPA of 3.0 within a five-year period. Footnote
