Associate Professor Weber, Graduate Program Director, 516-463-6658

The professional diploma is a practitioner’s degree which provides the opportunity for a practicing counselor to pursue additional specialized courses and field work to further qualify for specialized competencies in the counseling field (e.g., for a community counselor to earn qualifying credentials for certification in school counseling). Each student’s program of study will be developed through individual advisement and will be dependent on the individual student’s previous pattern of studies. The total number of semester hours required for the program may vary from student to student. Those lacking sufficient study in behavioral sciences will need to meet certain prerequisites. Credits earned in prior master’s degree in counseling may be transferred into the professional diploma program when currency in knowledge-base assessed and/or credit earned within previous five years.

The professional diploma requires 60 credits of graduate course work in counseling. Individual programs are developed, under advisement, in accordance with the student’s career goals.
