CSC 54 - Fundamentals of Data Communications
Introduction to data communications. History, evolution and current trends. Hardware issues including signals, media, terminals, communications backbones, and transmission methods. Protocols, including OSI, TCP/IP, LANs. Course includes an introduction to networking, including WANs, the Internet, and distributed systems. Course requirements include homework exercises, a programming project, and a research paper on a topic of interest and presentation of findings.
Prerequisites & Notes
CSC 50. May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis. This course has received provisional approval.
