JRNL 013 - Advanced News Writing and ReportingSemester Hours: 3 Fall, Spring
This course sends students off campus to practice public affairs reporting by covering government meetings and investigating critical issues in Long Island communities. Students build on the interviewing and documents-based reporting techniques they learned in JRNL 011 , emphasizing source development. Students will learn about Freedom of Information, open meeting, shield protection, privacy, and libel laws. A course goal is publication on The Long Island Advocate, the Lawrence Herbert School’s online multimedia publication.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: JRNL 011 ; May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis. Lab fees are additional.
