RTVF 034 - Writing Series Television ISemester Hours: 3 Fall, Spring
A course that introduces you to a writing process that can be applied to writing scripts for numerous television and web media formats. The focus is primarily on writing the hour-long drama and ½-hour comedy formats while covering three-act structure, dialogue, and character. To deepen and contextualize understanding, we will address the historical evolution of the television writer’s role and explore career paths in writing for television. We will write dramatic and comedic spec scripts and participate in a simulation of a “writer’s room.” This course is designed for students who are beginning their study of a wide range of media forms and have an interest in understanding the art and craft of writing for television
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Video/TV majors or Writing for the Screen majors only. May not be taken on a Pass/D+D/Fail basis. (Formerly Foundations of Television and Web TV Writing.)
