COUN 280-289 A-Z - Special Topics

Specific courses designed to explore emerging topics in counseling. As individual subjects are selected, each is assigned a letter (A-Z) and added to the course number. Specific titles and course descriptions for special topics courses are available in the online class schedule. Any course may be taken a number of times so long as there is a different letter designation each time it is taken.

Current Special Topics:

COUN 284B - Counseling Children and Adolescents

This course provides an in-depth examination of counseling strategies and interventions specific to working with children and adolescents. Students will explore developmental theories, cultural considerations, and evidence-based practices that support the mental health and well-being of young people within various clinical and educational contexts. Emphasis will be placed on developing practical skills for effective assessment, ethical practice, and culturally responsive interventions. setting. This course is designed to engage students in activities that will prepare them to provide ethical, competent counseling services to children and adolescents within public and private clinical mental health and school settings. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to address various mental health challenges facing children and adolescents and to implement tailored counseling approaches.
