REHB 231 - Intersectionality, Cultural Humility, and Social Justice in Counseling Semester Hours: 3 Fall
The client populations served in rehabilitation counseling settings experience oppression, marginalization, and reduced status. As such, rehabilitation counselors must practice from a stance of cultural humility, aware of the impact of bias, privilege, and the intersectionality of diversity aspects. A social justice perspective is the foundation to facilitate advocacy and collective change. Socially and culturally sustaining practices will be highlighted and translated into skills to serve clients with disabilities more effectively. Contemporary evidence-based and emerging practices for interventions will be presented.
