NAP 303 - Nurse Anesthesia Residency II
Semester Hours: 2
This course is the second of seven (7) clinical residencies that will allow the nurse anesthesia student to develop into competent, safe, culturally sensitive, interprofessional team members capable of engaging in a full scope of practice as defined in the AANA’s Scope of Nurse Anesthesia Practice and Standards for Nurse Anesthesia Practice. In this course, the graduate program will evaluate the registered nurse’s transition to a novice nurse anesthesia student in pediatrics, gynecology, gyno-urology, obstetrics, and pediatrics utilizing a developmental milestone framework. Students will have the opportunity to build upon their physical assessment skills, ultrasound-guided regional techniques, and utilize evidence-based diagnostic testing principles to optimize the surgical patient. The theoretical and clinical process whereby the advanced practice nurse utilizes comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and cultural assessment across the lifespan to gather specific data essential for constructing an anesthesia care plan will be demonstrated. A formative and summative evaluation will be performed by the student and their assigned academic advisor at the conclusion of the clinical residency. A course failure in NAP 302 will result in a failure in this clinical practicum course
