MSAT 201 - Emergency Medical Response Semester Hours: 1
This Emergency Medical Technician course is designed to prepare Athletic Trainers to serve as prehospital emergency medical health care providers for persons with acute injury or illness. This Emergency Medical Technician course is offered in partnership with the Northwell Health Emergency Medical Institute. It is designed to provide students with the essential education needed to render lifesaving care and maneuvers in a pre-hospital setting. This course is comprised of didactic presentations, online learning, team-based learning activities, practical skills sessions, patient simulation encounters, standardized patient encounters, and clinical/field experiences. This program will prepare students to effectively render all available techniques of basic life support presently considered within the scope of practice for a New York State Certified Emergency Medical Technician.Students who successfully complete all aspects of this program will be eligible to participate in New York State and National Registry Practical & Written Examinations. At the completion of the course, successful students will register to take the New York State Department of Health Emergency Medical Technicians’ Exam. Students will have also achieved credentials in the following disciplines: - American Heart Association Basic Life Support
- FEMA Introduction to the Incident Command Systems (ICS 100) for Healthcare/Hospitals
- FEMA Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS 700)
- Hazardous Materials Response- Awareness Level
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Open only to students enrolled in the Athletic Training, MS program. Course fee additional.
