REHB 237 - Internship in the Public Sector

Semester Hours: 3
Summer
This 3-credit internship is designed to enhance the student’s learning experience by integrating their academic training with field experience. Based on CACREP accreditation standards and New York State Mental Health Licensing requirements, students are expected to finish a total of 600 hours. The experience should take place at a rehabilitation counseling agency within the private and/or public setting for students in the traditional program (RC) and in a setting with both rehabilitation counseling and mental health counseling for students in the combined program (RCMH). Unlike REHB 234 and REHB 235, in this experience, students who have received grant funding by the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) will complete 300 hours of internship within the State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) system. Alternative public sector settings may be used when an opening is unavailable within State VR. These settings include Commission for the Blind, Centers for Independent Living, and Veteran’s Affairs. Students who would like to complete additional hours beyond the required 600 hours may also opt to take this course, but these hours will not count toward NYS Mental Health Licensing requirements.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Prerequisite: REHB 230, 234, 236; COUN 202 and 210, and program director permission.
