CLL 195 - (LT) Realism, Naturalism, Symbolism

Semester Hours: 3

Periodically

Literary realism, naturalism, and symbolism marked a move away from Romanticism as they developed in the nineteenth century. These new forms of art began to explore, in concrete detail, the real, material experiences of human beings as they negotiate the complex social, economic, political, and religious pressures that inform their lives. With its attention on how human beings confront the physical reality of daily life, realism is particularly relevant to how we struggle to create our individual and social identities in the twenty-first century.
