Current Special Topics:
CRWR 188O - Advanced Playwriting
This ISP challenges the skills of the developing playwright who wishes to gain experience in the exploration of action in dramatic writing. We will review fundamental elements of play construction - character, thought, dialogue, and setting - as vital components in shaping the student’s dramatic idea. Graded assignments may serve as prompts for the final project. The final project, consisting of at least 40-50 pages, will represent either a longer one-act or short full-length play.
The course will meet via a combination of Zoom and in-person discussions, enabling the student and instructor the opportunity to address specific issues in the evolving project, and to study certain published plays and their relationship to issues of craft, specific to the student playwright’s work.
Prerequisites: CRWR 137 or permission of instructor
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: May be repeated for credit when topics vary. As individual subjects are selected, each is assigned a letter (A-Z) which is affixed to the course number. Specific titles and course descriptions for special topics courses are available in the online class schedule.
