“Developing a new product” is a project-based course that equips students with the tools and frameworks necessary to generate, evaluate, and refine new product ideas. Working in teams, students will engage in the full cycle of product development conceptual testing, from identifying unmet consumer needs to designing strategies for market entry. The course emphasizes understanding the link between product attributes and the underlying needs they fulfill. Students will assess product competitiveness by comparing their concept against
market alternatives, identify and segment the target market, and develop pricing strategies that align with consumer expectations and value perceptions. Additionally, students will create a promotion plan centered on a clear and compelling Unique Selling Proposition (USP) to effectively communicate the product’s value to the intended audience. Through hands-on learning and team collaboration, students will gain practical experience in transforming innovative ideas into market-ready products.
The chair of the Marketing, International Business and Legal Studies Department has approved this course to count as a departmental elective toward the Marketing major / minor.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Special Topic Seminars are open to Honors College students in good standing and, with the permission of the instructor and the RHC Deans’ Office, to other students who meet RHC entrance criteria. May be repeated for credit when topics vary. Not for liberal arts credit.
