A literary, historical, and culturalanalysis of dimensions of gender and sexuality in the Hebrew Bible. Through a close reading of biblical literature and in dialogue with various bodies of scholarship, this course examines issues such as patriarchy and its relation to the production of Hebrew Bible literature; gender relations; sexuality and society; goddess worship; sexual violence; and gender aspects of political, legal, economic and religious life in among ancient Israel.
