RTVF 060 - Documentary Film and Video ProductionSemester Hours: 3 Fall, Spring
This introductory course on documentary storytelling delves into the techniques of creating non-fiction films. You will focus on a theoretical understanding of concepts such as ethical filmmaking and practical applications such as interview techniques, use of archival footage, and environmental portraiture. Together, we unpack the heart of storytelling, focusing on how to capture and present compelling narratives that engage and inform viewers. Through careful analysis, you review feature and short documentaries, examining both traditional and experimental approaches to the form. You will have the opportunity to pitch, write, and film your own short documentary, honing your skills in documentary planning and production. Projects may focus on political, cultural, and personal themes.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: RTVF 026 or 047 . Admission to class by permission of department. Equipment is provided but students are responsible for additional production expenses. Lab fees additional.
