LING 158 - (IS) Forensic LinguisticsSemester Hours: 3 Once a Year
Forensic linguistics examines the intersection of language and forensic and legal contexts. It augments legal analysis by applying rigorous scientific principles to legal evidence such as contracts, confessions, anonymous threatening letters, and recorded speech. Just as biology and physics play crucial roles in the interpretation of forensic medical and ballistic data, so too does linguistics enable a deeper understanding of forensic language phenomena.
