This course examines language and discrimination, particularly with respect to the ways people may be the target of prejudice due to various linguistic factors such as their language variety, accent, or linguistic ideology. The qualitative and quantitative research methods used to examine these social, psychological, and linguistic phenomena, especially as related to power, ideologies, and identity construction, are discussed.
