MASS 127 - Intellectual Property for Media Professionals

Semester Hours: 3
This course examines the U.S. system of copyright and intellectual property, and how it affects the creation, distribution, and consumption of media and related cultural products domestically and around the world. To do this, the course incorporates theory and history to understand the goals and tensions surrounding intellectual property law from the past to the present. Finally, it attempts to answer the all-important questions of creation and ownership (particularly in the realm of generative artificial intelligence), confidentiality, and the permissible uses of intellectual property in an increasingly digital media universe.
