SPED 237 - Teaching Students With Disabilities Semester Hours: 6 Fall, Spring
Full-time student teaching. For students seeking a master’s degree as well as certification in Students with Disabilities Pre-K-12, all grades. Students will complete two placements for a minimum of 70 days. The first placement will be in a Pre-K to Grade 6 setting for a minimum of 35 days. The second placement will be in a Grade 7-12 setting, also for a minimum of 35 days. In both placements, University supervisors will periodically visit the student teachers in the assigned setting. Mandatory weekly seminars focus on the analysis of teaching behavior using research-based best practice theory, human developmental processes and variations, and the development of reflective practice skills.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Completion of all core courses and prerequisite content/general core liberal arts coursework. Admission by permission of adviser and application to the Office of Field Placement and the Department of Specialized Programs in Education by May 1 for the succeeding spring semester and February 15 for the succeeding fall semester. Pass/Fail grade only.
