Semester Hours: 4
The first semester of a two-semester sequence covering the fundamental laws and principles of mechanics, heat, sound, light, electricity and magnetism, with an emphasis on mechanics and heat.
Most students with AP credit for physics typically start in PHYS 14F or PHYS 12A. Students with AP credit should seek advice from the Department of Physics and Astronomy before registering. Pre- or corequisites: MATH 71. Students must take 11B concurrently unless credit has already been received for the equivalent. 11A applies toward the natural science distribution requirement only upon successful completion of the corresponding laboratory course 11B.
